Dr Judy Pate (MA, MSc, PhD)
Head of Strategy
Judy has a unique blend of academic and
practitioner expertise. She worked at the
University of Glasgow for 15 years as a senior
lecturer in Strategy and Management. Judy has
secured a significant number of grants from
public, private and charitable organisations to
pursue her academic research interests. In
addition, recognition of her research contribution
was evidenced by the award of Advanced
Institute of Management Research (AIM) scholar
and invitation to join a research team from
Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
In conjunction with her academic career, Judy has
been instrumental in creating the five-star 14-
suite hotel, Glencoe House, with her husband,
Roger Niemeyer. Judy’s specific contributions and
responsibilities included: strategic business
analysis, securing a significant Highlands and
Islands Enterprise (HIE) grant and becoming one
of the selected few HIE managed businesses,
budgeting and forecasting, human resources
management, on-going development of the
website and online presence, managing on-line
reviews and on-line travel agents (OTA)
performance. The success of the hotel can be
measured by the consistently outstanding guest
reviews. For example on Tripadvisor, Glencoe
House enjoyed 93% of reviews at 5-star level and
thereby securing the number 1 position for all
luxury hotels in Scotland (as of September 2019
when Alliance Hotels Consultants Ltd. and
Glencoe House were sold to Perle Hotels Ltd.)
